University Newspaper: The Highlander
Printed and posted online biweekly, The Highlander is a student-run paper for Misericordia University. Students can be writers, photographers, or hold editor positions for the paper. The paper focuses on on-campus events and stories that are relevant to the campus as a whole. I've held various positions at The Highlander over the past 5 years.
My role as a journalist
I started off at The Highlander as a journalist and student photographer. I was assigned stories and events to photograph for the paper. In addition, I interviewed various professors, students, and staff, and wrote stories based on my assignments.

Multimedia editor
For two years, I worked as the Multimedia editor for The Highlander. I assigned students to take photos of events, wrote captions for those photos, and edited all images submitted to the paper. I taught students how to use a DSLR camera so that they could take higher quality photographs. Here are two examples of photos I took and edited.
Print editor
For the year that I was the Print editor, I was responsible for creating the layout for each print issue. I was responsible for coordinating with our printer, deciding which stories and photos would go into each issue, making edits as needed for both stories and photos, and working collaboratively with the team of editors and students to produce a bi-weekly publication.
